After More Than 12 Years, Opera “The Impresario” at Gomhouria Theatre
21 November 2023
Consistent with the Cairo Opera House’s cultural mission to revive world art classics and stage internationally acclaimed opera productions, the Cairo Opera Company presents “The Impresario” at the Gomhouria Theatre on 23 & 24 November 2023. The evening program also includes a wide selection of arias from Mozart’s most famous operas like “Don Giovanni”, “Così Fan Tutte”, “The Magic Flute” and “Bastien and Bastienne”.
“The Impresario” is a one-act comic opera composed by W. A. Mozart in 1786 and set to a libretto by Gottlieb Stephanie the Younger. The term ‘impresario’ originated in 18th century Italy to refer to the person who organizes concerts, plays or operas.
The story of the opera narrates, within a comic framework, the difficulties and strange
situations faced by an impresario while trying to assemble two heroines (prima donnas) in a single artistic project. During his endeavor, he tries hard to control their arrogance and at the same time meet their demands.
Accompanied by pianist Greig Martin and directed by Hazem Tayel, the lead roles are portrayed by Dalia Farouk and Ingy Mohsen alternating in the role of Madame Harty. Amira Reda and Veronia Philippe alternate in the role of Ms. Willy, while Mina Raphael and Ibrahim Nagui alternate as the Impresario, and Tamer Tawfik and Ossama Gamal alternate as Mr. Buff.
The Cairo Opera Company was officially founded in 1964 and has a vast repertoire that includes more than 32 opera productions. Members of the Company performed notable roles at the most prestigious venues worldwide. Through years of dedication and diligence, the Cairo Opera Company succeeded in amassing a fan base of opera enthusiasts and music lovers.
