“Ash… During Times of Tyranny” by Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company at Gomhouria Theatre for First Time
18 November 2024
In tandem with the Ministry of Culture’s endeavors to promote all forms of creativity, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, presents the new production “Ash.. During Times of Tyranny” by Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company at Gomhouria Theatre on 19, 20, and 21 November 2024 at 8 p.m.
The production is choreographed and directed by Karima Bidair, written by Mohamed Fouad, set and costume design by Anis Ismail, and assistant director Ragwa Hamed.
This performance explores the role of women within a society ruled by tyranny, shedding light on the life details of Egyptian alleys, their conflicts, and power dynamics from a woman’s perspective. Simultaneously, it scrutinizes the internal and external conflict women face while dealing with social pressure and emphasizes their role as a driving force of change who influence their surroundings, and support freedom and equality.
Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company was established in 2009 by the Egyptian Ministry
of Culture to rediscover and embody Egyptian and Arab heritage through the art of
modern dance. Performances creatively reinterpret this rich legacy through innovative
choreographies set in a historical and dramatic context.
In 2010, the Company was affiliated to the Cairo Opera House and made its debut
with “The Greatest Street” Performance. Since then, performances of the Company
have garnered favorable acclaim and success among the Egyptian audience. Currently,
Essam Ezzat is artistic director of Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company.
