Cairo Opera House Celebrates Fayza Ahmed’s Death Anniversary

The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, celebrates the death anniversary of the great Egyptian diva, Fayza Ahmed, with a concert by Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music at the Main Hall on Thursday, 5 September 2024 at 8:30 p.m.
Conducted by Maestro Ahmed Amer, Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble presents a distinctive concert program consisting of two sections: the first section features famous singles of the late Fayza Ahmed; and the second section features the masterpieces of the great composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab.
Fayza Ahmed - often referred to as “Nightingale of the East” - is one of the most iconic figures in Arab singing. Born in Sidon, Lebanon in 1934, she embarked on her artistic journey at the age of 11. Throughout her career, Fayza Ahmed cooperated with various renowned artists and composers, gaining widespread fame in the Arab music scene.
Her partnership with the late Mohamed El Mogy is considered a significant turning point in her artistic career, creating songs that have achieved widespread recognition. Fayza Ahmed’s musical legacy includes collaborations with renowned composers such as Kamal El-Tawil, Mahmoud El-Sherif, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Mohamed Soltan, and Riyad El Sonbaty. However, her association with Baligh Hamdi, who composed several songs for her, is considered a turning point in her career.
Fayza Ahmed also ventured in the world of cinema starring in 6 Egyptian movies. She passed away on the 24th of September 1983.
Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music was founded in 1967 by Maestro Abdel Halim Nowera. The Ensemble’s mission is to revive the authentic musical heritage, presenting various traditional vocal and musical forms.
