Under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Dagher, hosts a concert by Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music at the Main Hall on Thursday, 4 January 2024 at 8 p.m.
Conducted by Ahmed Amer, the concert’s program includes a selection of the most famous works by the late Egyptian singer-composer Mohamed Fawzy. Songs are performed by Somaya Wagdy, Rehab Motawa, Hossam Hosni, Islam Refaat, Mohamed Metwally, and Moustafa Al Nagdy.
Mohamed Fawzy is a prominent Egyptian singer, composer, actor, and filmmaker. His passion for music began in an early age: songs of Mohamed Abdel Wahab and Um Kulthum were his main inspiration. Fawzy joined the King Fouad I Music Institute and managed to achieve success in both the field of acting and singing. He established Mohamed Fawzy Film Company that produced a large number of musical films that are considered treasures of Egyptian cinema.
Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Mohamed Fawzy occupied the throne of music and cinema in Egypt. One of his major contributions is founding Misrphon (a music production company) that produced songs for leading Arab singers. Fawzy passed away in 1966, leaving a vast artistic heritage that includes 400 songs and 36 films.
