
Cairo Opera House Commemorates Mounir Mourad’s Birth Anniversary at Gomhouria Theatre

Within the context of the Ministry of Culture’s plan to celebrate Arab music legends in recognition of their achievements, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Daqher, commemorates the birth anniversary of the prominent musician Mounir Mourad in a concert conducted by Maestro Mohamed El Mogy, at Gomhouria Theatre on Saturday, 13 January 2024 at 8 p.m.
The concert’s program features selections of the late singer’s most-celebrated works, performed by Ahmed Sabry, Mohamed Metwally, Hanan Essam, Noha Hafez, and Farah El Mogy.
Mounir Mourad, born in January 1922, grew up in a musical family, his father Zaki Mourad was a famous Egyptian singer and his sister, the famous singer and actress Leila Mourad. He was an Egyptian singer, actor and composer. The style of his musical compositions and cinematic works was recognized as distinguished and conspicuous.
Mourad started his artistic career first as a script supervisor, and later as assistant director to Kamal Salim in 24 films during the 1940s. His breakthrough, however, came when he composed his first popular song “Wahed... Etneen” (One... Two) sung by Shadia. The song gained wide popularity and lead to several collaborations with renowned singers and film producers. Mourad was a pioneer in dance music and musical shows. Mounir Mourad passed away in October 1981.
