05 March 2024
Within the context of the Ministry of Culture’s strategy to celebrate Arab music legends in recognition of their achievements, the Cairo Opera House holds a concert at the Main Hall on Thursday, 7 March 2024 at 8 p.m. to commemorate the death anniversary of the great Egyptian singer, Abdel Halim Hafez.
Conducted by Maestro Dr. Mohamed El Mogy, the concert’s program features Abdel Halim Hafez’s most romantic love songs presented by Ahmed Afifi and Farah El Mogy.
Abdel Halim Hafez is one of the icons of Arab singing and the most famous Egyptian emotional singers. Born in El Sharqiya in 1929, he studied at the High Arab Music Institute in Cairo, where he learned to play different musical instruments such as the piano, oud, clarinet, guitar, and oboe. From his debut in the early 1950s, Abdel Halim’s concerts were an immediate success. He had a special connection with his audience - where simplicity and warmth reigned. He was nicknamed “El Andalib El Asmar” (The Dark-Skinned Nightingale), for his voice, which later became a cultural phenomenon in the region. He collaborated with many geniuses of composition and died after a struggle with illness in 1977, leaving behind a huge artistic legacy that continues to enrich the singing scene in Egypt and the Arab world.
