Chairman of the Cairo Opera House Mourns Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar

Dr. Khaled Dagher, Chairman of the Cairo Opera House, and all the artists and staff members of the Cairo Opera House mourned the death of Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar, the former conductor of the Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Arabic Music and Singing who passed away on Wednesday, 17 January 2024.
Dr. Khaled Dagher stated that the deceased was one of the pillars of Arab music and one of the most prominent ney players and orchestra conductors. He added that he contributed to enriching the musical life in Egypt and the Arab world and successfully discovered and honed the skills of many prominent stars. Dagher expressed his condolences to Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar’s family and friends.
Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar, father of Dr. Ihab Abdel Hamid, Head of the Instruments Department at the Higher Institute of Arabic Music, made numerous musical contributions as a ney player, composer, and conductor. He accompanied famous singing stars during their concerts in the 1970s and 1980s as a ney player, composed the scores for many drama series, and conducted numerous music ensembles and orchestras.
