Disability Arts Group Shines at Damanhour Opera Salon
12 December 2023
The Cairo Opera House, headed by Dr. Khaled Dagher, held an artistic and cultural event at the Damanhour Opera House on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Moderated by Balegh Abdel Nabi Zidan, the evening began with a discussion with two brilliant examples of disabled persons: Moustafa Rameeh, the visually-impaired world champion weightlifter, and the autistic talented singer Hend Anwar. Hend Anwar emphasized in her speech that her mother and the Talents Development Center of the Cairo Opera House played a major role in supporting and nurturing her talent.
For his part, Rameeh pointed to the significant role of various state institutions in supporting him until he achieved a number of international championships. He also touched on the types of medals and numerous prizes he has won in weightlifting competitions. At the end of the evening, the Disability Arts Group also presented a spectacular artistic performance that won the admiration of the attendance.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated every year on 3 December around the world. Proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations, the observance of the IDPD aims to support and raise awareness about disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
