El-Leila El-Kebira at Damanhour Opera House

On the occasion of World Children’s Day and in collaboration between the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Dagher, and the Cultural Production Affairs Sector, Damanhour Opera House hosts the famous performance “El-Leila El-Kebira” on Thursday, 16 November 2023 at 7 p.m. The puppet-operetta is co-produced by the Theatre House and the Cairo Puppet Theatre.

El-Leila El-Kebira was composed by Sayed Mekawy, with lyrics by Salah Jahin. It was first presented in the 1960s at the Puppet Theater in Cairo and quickly became Egypt’s iconic and most famed puppet show. The Operetta showcases the annual gatherings for celebrating the birth of Prophet Mohamed (Al-Moulid) and the various activities that take place in an Egyptian village during these celebrations.

The World Children’s Day was declared in 1954 as a global occasion celebrated on 20 November each year. The annual event aims to promote international solidarity and is dedicated to raising awareness about children’s rights and improving their welfare.
