Egypt’s cultural scene continues in its endeavors to celebrate iconic Arab figures in music and poetry; hence, the Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Khaled Dagher, holds a concert by Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music at Gomhouria Theater on Sunday, 11 February 2024 at 8 p.m. under the baton of Maestro Ahmed Amer.
The program features renowned works of the late Farid Al-Atrash, performed by Dalia Abdel Wahab, Rahab Metawa’, Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Hossam Hosni, Moustafa El Nagdi, Mohamed Hassan, and Walid Haider.
Farid Al-Atrash, known as the “King of Oud”, is one of the greatest singers and composers in the Arab world. He is a descendant of Al-Atrash family, one of the ancient families in the Druze Mountain in southern Syria, which played a significant role in resisting the French colonization of Syria. His artistic career began when he moved to Cairo with his siblings Fouad and Asmahan. He starred in 31 films and worked with prominent Arab poets while composing for numerous great Egyptian and Arab singers.
Farid Al-Atrash passed away on 26 December 1974, leaving behind an enduring legacy that continues to enrich the artistic scene in Egypt and the Arab world.
