Fourth Part of the Book Series “The Beautiful Art” in a Cultural Panel at Cairo Opera House

Journalist & Art Critic, Kariman Harak, Discusses Ballet & Contemporary Dance at the Small Hall
The Cairo Opera House, under supervision of Dr, Khaled Dagher, Chairman of the Board, is going to organize a cultural panel to discuss “The Art of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in Egypt” - the fourth part of the book series “The Beautiful Art” – written by the journalist and art critic, Kariman Harak.
The panel is hosting Dr. Ahlam Younis, former Dean of the Higher Institute of Ballet and former President of the Academy of Arts; Dr. Rasha Tomuom, Professor at the Composition and Theories Department at the Faculty of Music Education; and journalist, Hassan Hamed, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Gomhouria Newspaper. The panel is led by Ayman Adly under the supervision of Amin El Serafy and will feature a music and song performance by Wessam Amin (oboe) and Reem Kamal (singing). This panel will be held on the 25th of September 2023 at the Small Hall.
The book presents a documented historical overview of the emergence and evolution of ballet and contemporary dance in Egypt from the 1960s to present. Within its pages, readers will find a critical perspective and objective assessments of both local and international ballet and modern dance performances hosted by the Cairo Opera House since its inauguration in 1988.
Kariman Harak has been an art critic and journalist specialized in music, opera and ballet for over thirty years. She has been honored in several festivals: Modern Dance Festival (2010), Arab Music Festival (2013) and Citadel Festival for Music and Singing (2018). In 2016, she was also honored by the Cairo Opera House on the occasion of the release of her first part of the book series “The Beautiful Art”.
Currently, she holds the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Masaa newspaper and she is a committee member of the Arab Music Conference and the Music, Opera, and Ballet Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture.
The first part of her book series The Bauriful Art” was published in 2016 under the title “The Contribution of Egyptian Companies in Music, Opera, and Ballet”. The second part was released in 2018 under the title “The Art of Opera in Egypt,” followed by the third part in 2021 titled “International and Local Music in Egypt”. Going out of print, these parts have been reprinted multiple times.
