
Gamal Salama’s Piano Donated to Cairo Opera House

Dr. Khaled Dagher, Chairman of the Board, received Sonia Gamal Salama, the daughter of the late Egyptian composer and songwriter Gamal Salama (1945 - 2021) at the Cairo Opera House. During her visit, she gifted her father’s piano and handwritten scores to the Cairo Opera House.
Sonia Gamal Salama pointed out that her father composed many of his famous works on piano, and that the handwritten scores demonstrate the prominent features of the late musician’s unique style and talent. These music scores feature celebrated compositions that are considered a landmark of modern and contemporary Egyptian music.
Meanwhile, Dr. Khald Dagher confirmed the importance, value, and statues of Gamal Salama as one Egypt’s distinguished musicians. He gave his orders that the piano should remain on display at the Cairo Opera premises and that the handwritten scores are to be preserved in a special section at the music library.
Gamal Salama was born in Alexandria in 1945. He studied piano at the Cairo Conservatoire before completing his PhD at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. Salama composed numerous famous singing stars in Egypt and the Arab world like Sabah, Samira Saeed, Magda El-Roumi, Yasmine Al-Khayam, Sofia Sadiq, and others. He also composed dozens of soundtracks for some of the most important films, TV series, and theater plays in the 1980s. He passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable melodies.
