Japanese Music Concert at the Small Hall

01 October 2024

In line with the continuous efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture to strengthen artistic cooperation with various countries around the world, the Cairo Opera House, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Cairo, is hosting a Koto Recital by the Japanese koto player Yoko Nishi, accompanied by the Egyptian oud player Mario Saied. The event takes place at the Small Hall on Thursday, 3 October 2024 at 7 p.m.
The concert’s program features famous Japanese and Arabic compositions.
The koto is a traditional Japanese musical instrument similar to the qanun. It has up to 13 strings stretched over bridges on a long, hollow resonating body. The instrument is played by plucking the strings with a pick or fingers of the right hand, while the left hand presses or pulls the strings to change the pitch.
