National Arab Music Ensemble Features Works by Warda & Abdel Wahab

The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, is hosting a concert by the National Arab Music Ensemble, under the baton of Maestro Dr. Mostafa Helmy, at the Gomhouria Theatre on Thursday, 30 May 2024 at 8:30 p.m.
The concert’s program includes a selection of the most famous works by the legendary composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab and the renowned singer Warda. The concert features Ahmed Saeed, Manar Samir, Sameh Mounir, Mai Hassan, Ashraf Waleed, Amira Abou Zeid, Ahmed Essam, and Ghada Adam.
Mohamed Abdel Wahab, born on 13 March 1902, in Cairo, is a renowned figure in Arab music. Known as the “Maestro of Generations”, he excelled as a composer, musician, and cinema actor, starting his artistic journey in 1917. Abdel Wahab collaborated with prominent poets like Ahmed Shawqi and renowned Egyptian and Arab singers, including Umm Kulthum, Leila Mourad, Abdel Halim Hafez, Nagat, Fayza Ahmed, Warda, Fairuz, Asmahan, Talal Maddah. He departed our world on 4 May 1991, after enriching the Arab musical scene with his artistic works, which capture, until today, the hearts of the Egyptian and Arab people.
Warda, also known as Warda Al Jazairia (The Algerian Rose) was born in 1939 in France. She began singing in the 1950s yet her career came to be on the rise and took off after she came to Egypt in 1960 to star in a musical film. Throughout her career, Warda’s repertoire included more than 300 songs selling over 100 million albums in the Arab world and worldwide. Some of title songs became everlasting hits. She starred in a number of Egyptian films and collaborated with great musicians such as Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Riyad El Sombati, Helmy Bakr and Sayed Mekkawy. Warda passed away on 17 May 2012 in Cairo, Egypt leaving behind an unforgettable legacy.
