The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, holds a concert by the Egyptian marimba star, Nesma Abdel Aziz, at the Open Air Theatre on Friday, 29 March 2024 at 9:30 p.m.
The concert’s program includes a wide variety of the most famous Arab & Western compositions specifically arranged for marimba and percussion ensemble.
Nesma Abdel Aziz started her musical studies at the age of 12 and obtained her Bachelor degree from the Cairo Conservatoire with honors in 1997. In 2014, she got her PhD in Arts.
Nesma Abdel Aziz Group was established in 2000 and aims to present a new type of music which combines classical music, modern music, jazz, and international music in addition to Arab music with and thus creates a new musical pattern that depends on mixing between Western and Arab instruments and to present it in a contemporary context that is compatible with marimba and percussion.
Audiences and critics call her “Princess of Percussion” due to her extraordinary talent as a percussionist.
