The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, is hosting a concert by Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music, conducted by Maestro Ahmed Amer, at the Gomhouria Theatre on Friday, 10 May 2024 at 8:30 p.m.
The concert’s program includes selections from the masterpieces of Arab Tarab composed by prominent composers presented by Abeer Amin, Reem Hamdi, Suzan Mamdouh, Dalia Abdel Wahab, Aya Abdallah, Mahmoud Abdel Hameed, Essam Mahmoud, Ibrahim Rashed, and Ahmed Nafie.
Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music was founded in 1967, by a republican decision from the late president Gamal Abdel Nasser, under the name of the Arab Music Ensemble. However, the main impetus for founding the Ensemble was the late artist Abdel Halim Nowera, whose name it still bears, in honor of his memory. The main goal of founding Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music was to preserve, develop and present the Arab music heritage in a style that appeals to and attracts contemporary music listeners without causing any distortion to the classical artistic content of this heritage. Different music ensembles in several Arab countries tried to follow this approach; however, Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music continued to occupy a unique and unrivaled position in this field.
