“The Magic Flute” at the Cairo Opera House

The Cairo Opera Company is opening its new season, under the artistic supervision of Dr. Tahia Shams El Din, with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”. The Opera is directed by Hisham El-Tally and includes the participation of: the Cairo Opera Orchestra conducted by Maestro Ahmed Farag; the Cairo Opera Choir coached by Mina Hanna; and members of the Modern Dance Theatre Company.
The performances are going to be held at the Main Hall on 28, 29 September & 1, 2 October 2023 at 8:30 p.m.
The Opera is set in ancient Egypt and tells the story of Prince Tamino, who is rescued by three women after fainting while escaping from a giant serpent. They give him a necklace with a picture of Pamina, the Queen’s daughter, leading him to fall in love with her. However, Tamino learns that she is held captive by an evil man named Sarastro. To rescue her, Tamino is given a magical flute, and the three women assist him in his mission. The Opera unfolds as an exciting narrative symbolizing the constant struggle between the forces of good and evil.
The dances are choreographed by Sherif Ramadan; set and graphics are by Mohamed Abdel Razek, lighting is by Reda Ibrahim, and costumes are designed by Hala Mahmoud.
Opera “The Magic Flute” is one of Mozart's final compositions and was first performed under his direction in Vienna in late 1791. It belongs to the genre that combines singing with theatrical dialogue.
