Vasily Polenov's Vision of the East at Ziad Bakir Gallery
14 December 2024
The Cairo Opera House, under the supervision of Dr. Lamiaa Zayed, is hosting the "Journey to the East" exhibition by the late Russian artist Vasily Polenov (1844-1927) at Ziad Bakir Gallery on Sunday, 15 December 2024, at 7 p.m. and runs until Sunday, 22 December 2024.
The exhibition showcases paintings by the 19th century Russian landscape painter Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov (1844- 1927) created during his journeys in Syria, Egypt, and Palestine.
Divided into two sections, the first section of the exhibition features artworks created during his first trip (1881-1882), while the second features paintings from his second trip (1899), along with a collection of photographs.
Vasily Polenov was a multi-talented artist, theater designer, architect, composer, and teacher. His contemporaries called him the "Knight of Beauty." His paintings were groundbreaking in the development of Russian landscape painting, as he was one of the first artists to break away from academic norms and explore new artistic horizons.
