“Set El Hosn” by Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company at Gomhouria Theatre
31 December 2024
In line with the Ministry of Culture’s endeavors to promote Egyptian folklore as a tool to preserve our cultural identity, and as part of the Cairo Opera House’s efforts - under the supervision of Dr. Lamia Zayed - to encourage new productions, Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company begins 2025 with its new production, “Set El Hosn”. The show, choreographed and directed by Dr. Essam Ezzat and assistant director Karima Bedair, runs for three consecutive nights at the Gomhouria Theater on 2, 3, and 4 January 2025 at 8 p.m.
With drama by Mohamed Zannati, set and costume design by Dr. Ahmed Abdallah and lighting design by Reda Ibrahim, the new production draws inspiration from the famous folkloric tale “Set El Hosn”, a traditional story passed down through generations. The narrative is reimagined with a fresh and innovative artistic perspective.
The lead roles are performed by Fatma El Shabrawy as Set El Hosn, Nader Gamal alternating with Abdel Rahman Desouky as the Raven, Nouran Seif alternating with Mohamed Helal, Donia Mohamed, and Ibrahim Khaled as Omna El Ghoulah, and Nour Eldin Omar Metwally as El Shater Hassan.
Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company was established in 2009 by the Egyptian Ministry
of Culture to rediscover and embody Egyptian and Arab heritage through the art of
modern dance. Performances creatively reinterpret this rich legacy through innovative
choreographies set in a historical and dramatic context.
In 2010, the Company was affiliated to the Cairo Opera House and made its debut
with “The Greatest Street” Performance. Since then, performances of the Company
have garnered favorable acclaim and success among the Egyptian audience. Currently,
Essam Ezzat is artistic director of Forsan El Sharq Heritage Company.
